Each particle accelerator facility shall have available:

1. (a) Appropriate portable monitoring equipment which:

   1. (1) Is operable;
   2. (2) Has been calibrated for the appropriate radiations being produced at the facility;
   3. (3) Has been tested daily for proper operation;
   4. (4) Has been calibrated at intervals not to exceed one year;
   5. (5) Has been calibrated after each servicing; and
   6. (6) Has been calibrated after repair;
2. (b) A radiation protection survey, performed and documented by a qualified expert specifically registered with DHHS/RHS pursuant to He-P 4040.06, which documents changes in shielding, operation, equipment, or occupancy of adjacent areas;
3. (c) Continuous monitoring devices for all high radiation areas which are electrically independent of the accelerator control and safety interlock systems and are capable of providing a readout at the control panel;
4. (d) All area monitors shall be calibrated at intervals not to exceed one year and after each servicing and repair;
5. (e) Periodic surveys to determine the amount of airborne particulate radioactivity present in areas of airborne hazards if applicable;
6. (f) Periodic smear surveys to determine the degree of contamination in target and other pertinent areas if applicable;
7. (g) All area surveys shall be made in accordance with the written procedures established by a qualified expert, or the radiation safety officer of the particle accelerator facility; and

8. (h) Records of:

   1. (1) Radiation protection surveys;
   2. (2) Calibration results;
   3. (3) Instrumentation tests; and
   4. (4) Smear results.
