1. (a) For each patient or human research subject who cannot be released under He‑P 4035.25, a licensee shall:

   1. (1) Provide a private room, or share with another individual who also cannot be released under He-P 4035.25, with a private sanitary facility;
   2. (2) Post the patient’s or human research subject’s door with a “Caution: Radioactive Material” sign and note on the door or on the patient’s or human research subject’s chart where and how long visitors may stay in the patient’s or human research subject’s room; and
   3. (3) Either monitor material and items removed from the patient’s room or the human research subject’s room to determine that their radioactivity cannot be distinguished from the natural background radiation level with a radiation detection survey instrument set on its most sensitive scale with no interposed shielding, or handle these materials and items as radioactive waste.
2. (b) The radiation safety officer, or his or her designee, and an authorized user shall be notified immediately if the patient or human research subject dies or has a medical emergency.
