1. (a) The radiographer’s assistant shall be under the personal supervision of a radiographer when using sources of radiation, radiographic exposure devices, associated equipment, sealed sources, or conducting radiation surveys required by He‑P 4034.21(b) to determine that the sealed source has returned to the shielded position or the radiation machine is off after an exposure.

2. (b) The personal supervision required in He‑P 4034.19(a) shall include:

   1. (1) The radiographer’s physical presence at the site where the sealed sources or sources of radiation are being used;
   2. (2) The availability of the radiographer to give immediate assistance if required; and
   3. (3) The radiographer’s direct observation of the assistant’s performance of the operations referred to in this section.
