1. (a) To be certified as a technology and engineering teacher a candidate shall:

   1. (1) Have at least a bachelor’s degree; and
   2. (2) Qualify for certification under one of the alternatives in Ed 505.01 – Ed 505.05.

2. (b) A candidate for certification as a technology and engineering teacher shall have skills, competencies, and knowledge in the following areas:

   1. (1) In the area of curriculum and instruction, the candidate shall have the ability to plan and implement units, projects, and lessons based on design process, including, but not limited to:

      1. a. Defining a problem by brainstorming or other methods;
      2. b. Researching and generating ideas;

      3. c. Selecting an approach after:

         1. 1. Identifying the criteria to be applied;
         2. 2. Specifying any constraints; and
         3. 3. Exploring various possible approaches;
      4. d. Developing a design proposal;
      5. e. Making a model or prototype;
      6. f. Testing and evaluating the design;
      7. g. Refining the design;
      8. h. Producing and marketing the product; and
      9. i. Communicating the processes and results;

   2. (2) In the area of process skills, the candidate shall have the ability to model, teach, and encourage the development of:

      1. a. Math and science skills;
      2. b. Time management skills;
      3. c. Oral, written, and technological communication skills;
      4. d. Problem solving strategies;
      5. e. Persistence and entrepreneurship;
      6. f. Technological documentation; and
      7. g. Collaborative group process and leadership skills;
   3. (3) In the area of safety, the candidate shall demonstrate the ability to model, teach, and encourage safe and efficient habits in the application of tools, materials, and technologies;

   4. (4) In the area of knowledge of content, the candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply a design and development process in one or more technologies listed below:

      1. a. Medical technologies;
      2. b. Agricultural technologies;
      3. c. Biotechnologies;
      4. d. Energy and power technologies;
      5. e. Information and communications technologies;
      6. f. Transportation technologies;
      7. g. Manufacturing technologies;
      8. h. Construction technologies;
      9. i. Robotics and automation technologies; and
      10. j. Emerging technologies; and

   5. (5) In the area of technology and society, the candidate shall have the ability to integrate information involving:

      1. a. Careers;
      2. b. History of technology;
      3. c. Engineering design ethics;
      4. d. Emerging technologies; and
      5. e. Social and economic impacts.
