“Reconnaissance survey without sampling” means the evaluation of a given area to locate archaeological sites or to provide a measure from which to predict the kinds, distribution and density of sites, using only non-destructive methods and techniques such as walk-over inspection, the search for sites in the course of recreational diving, mapping, and remote sensing, and excluding the collection of surface and subsurface materials except for the recovery of a single item.
