The commission’s responsibilities include:
- (a) Assembling and publishing a comprehensive inventory of natural resources of the Connecticut River valley;
- (b) Coordinating a regional promotional program with the department of resources and economic development;
- (c) Providing for interstate cooperation with the state of Vermont;
- (d) Cooperating with local communities and regional planning commissions;
- (e) Reviewing and evaluating other river and watershed protection endeavors;
- (f) Seeking and expending additional public and private funds;
- (g) Encouraging the protection of agricultural, historical, and natural resources, and the provision of additional public access to recreational sites; and
- (h) Providing grants to further the purposes of the commission.
