Part 86.1-86.4, unique and permanent method of identification that specifically identifies individual animals in accordance with one of the systems outlined in Table 1 of USDA’s Animal Disease Traceability General Standard. Official identification includes but is not limited to ear tags, brands, bands, tattoos, microchips, and, for dogs, cats, and equines, physical description of both natural and acquired markings unique to an individual animal.
