An aquatic weed control project proposed by a unit of local, state, or federal government; academic institution; public utility; or other entity may be eligible for grant funds from the Aquatic Weed Fund provided that:

1. (1) the project targets one or more aquatic weed species included on the Noxious Aquatic Weed List in 15A NCAC 02G .0602 with subsequent amendments;
2. (2) the cost share requirements of G.S. 143-215.73F(c)(3) are met; and

3. (3) the project provides at least one of the following benefits:

   1. (A) protects and preserves human health;
   2. (B) protects public safety;
   3. (C) protects the beneficial use of the water(s) of the State;
   4. (D) prevents injury to property; or
   5. (E) prevents injury to beneficial plant and animal life.
