Innkeeper's liability as to property of guests -- dollar limitation

- (1) An innkeeper is liable for all losses of or injuries to personal property placed by the guests under the innkeeper's care unless occasioned by an irresistible superhuman cause, by a public enemy, by the negligence of the owner, or by the act of someone whom the innkeeper brought into the inn.
- (2) The liability provided for in subsection (1) may not exceed $500 for all personal property of each registered guest unless the innkeeper consents in writing with the guest to assume a greater liability. An innkeeper whose liability is limited shall notify the guest at the time of registration, in writing, that this limitation applies.
