1. (1) Family training and support is defined in ARM 37.40.1402. Services include:

   1. (a) general orientation about the child's disability; and
   2. (b) training specific to the needs of the child and his or her family on how to best meet the child's needs.

2. (2) Providers of this service may:

   1. (a) serve as consultants to families in terms of developmental stages and teaching activities that families can engage in with their child that help in the developmental process;
   2. (b) collaborate with case managers and families to develop strategies for environmental modifications or adaptations that would be beneficial to the child;
   3. (c) periodically assess the child, including conducting developmental assessments, in order to discover unmet needs, determine progress or lack of progress, and identify areas of strength that can be emphasized;
   4. (d) provide emotional support to families, including active listening, problem solving;
   5. (e) recommend resources within the community that could offer support;
   6. (f) advocate for the family; and
   7. (g) assist the family with transition and referral to special education.
3. (3) The provider of this service must be an employee of a Child and Family Services provider under contract with the Developmental Services Division.
