1. (1) For this SMA:

   1. (a) Slash on the perimeter of, or adjacent to, a precommercial thinning unit must meet the general standard.

   2. (b) If the boundary of the unit coincides with a change in land ownership, it must have either:

      1. (i) a 12-foot fire break;
      2. (ii) a 33-foot fuel break; or
      3. (iii) the slash must be lopped to a height of 18 inches for 66 feet inside the unit boundary.
   3. (c) The department may approve other methods when such methods would maintain public and firefighter safety.
