1. (1) Develop insight into the nature of language and culture to interact with cultural competence, with a particular emphasis on Montana Indigenous cultures.

   1. (a) Language comparisons: learners use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied, their own language, and, when appropriate, Montana Indigenous languages; and
   2. (b) Cultural comparisons: learners use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the concept of culture through comparisons between the cultures, their own way of life, and Montana Indigenous culture's history, diversity, and sovereignty.
