Montana Content Standards for Computer Science

Effective Jul 1, 2021Authorizing statute(s): Mont. Const. Art. X, sec. 9, 20-2-121, MCA; Implementing statute(s): Mont. Const. Art. X, sec. 9, 20-2-121, 20-3-106, 20-7-101, MCAState of Montana

(1) The content areas covered by the computer science standards may include:
1. (a) algorithms and programming;
2. (b) computing systems;
3. (c) data and analysis;
4. (d) impacts of computing; and
5. (e) computer science networks and the internet.
(2) When a district incorporates or integrates computer science content into district curriculum or offers a course in computer science, the following skills at each grade level apply:
1. (a) fostering an inclusive computing culture;
2. (b) collaborating around computing;
3. (c) recognizing and defining computational problems;
4. (d) developing and using abstractions;
5. (e) creating computational artifacts;
6. (f) testing and refining computational artifacts; and
7. (g) communicating about computing.
