1. A. Surviving acute stroke patients and their families shall receive instruction on:

   1. (1) Signs and symptoms of acute stroke, including the importance of activating EMS;
   2. (2) Effects and prognosis of acute stroke;
   3. (3) Potential complications of acute stroke;
   4. (4) Needs and rationales for treatment;
   5. (5) Patient compliance instructions for risk reduction of individual risk factors and secondary prevention programs; and
   6. (6) Post-stroke support services.
2. B. The hospital shall support or participate, or both, in acute stroke educational activities developed for EMS personnel which are conducted at least once a year.

3. C. The hospital shall conduct at least two times per year public education programs on:

   1. (1) Stroke prevention;
   2. (2) Recognition of signs and symptoms of acute stroke and the need to activate EMS;
   3. (3) Diagnosis of acute stroke; and
   4. (4) Treatment of acute stroke.
