1. A. The Commission provides instructor certification in accordance with this chapter for the following instructor classifications:

   1. (1) Academic Provisional Instructor;
   2. (2) Academic Instructor;
   3. (3) Defensive Tactics Provisional Instructor;
   4. (4) Defensive Tactics Instructor;
   5. (5) Electronic Control Device Instructor;
   6. (6) Emergency Vehicle Operations Provisional Instructor;
   7. (7) Emergency Vehicle Course Safety Officer;
   8. (8) Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor;
   9. (9) Firearms Provisional Instructor;
   10. (10) Line Instructor;
   11. (11) Firearms Instructor;
   12. (12) Motorcycle Operator Provisional Instructor;
   13. (13) Motorcycle Operator Course Safety Officer; and
   14. (14) Motorcycle Operator Instructor.

2. B. Certification Required.

   1. (1) Unless exempt under Regulation .04 of this chapter, an individual who provides instruction for a Commission-approved training course that is credited toward the Commission’s requirements for police officer certification under COMAR 12.04 shall be:

      1. (a) Certified by the Commission or the Correctional Training Commission as an instructor for the type of instruction the individual is providing; and
      2. (b) In compliance with applicable Commission regulations.
   2. (2) An individual’s instructor certification for a specific instructor classification limits the individual to providing the type of instruction prescribed for the instructor classification established under Regulation .17 of this chapter.
