1. A. In this chapter, the following terms have the meanings indicated.

2. B. Terms Defined.

   1. (1) “Accreditation Commission for Midwifery (ACME)” means the accrediting agency for midwifery education programs and institutions, or a successor organization, which is approved by the United States Department of Education.
   2. (2) “American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)” means the national professional association, or a successor organization, that represents advanced practice midwives, including certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives in the United States
   3. (3) “American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)” means the national certifying body for candidates in nurse-midwifery and midwifery, or a successor organization, which is approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
   4. (4) “Board” means the Maryland Board of Nursing.
   5. (5) “Central Repository” has the meaning stated in Health Occupations Article, §8-303(a), Annotated Code of Maryland.

   6. (6) “Clinical practice guidelines” means written standards using guidelines established by:

      1. (a) The ACNM in Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as amended or supplemented; or
      2. (b) Any other national certifying body recognized by the Board.
   7. (7) “Licensed certified midwife (LCM)” means an individual who has been issued a license by the Board to practice certified midwifery.
   8. (8) “Newborn” means an infant in the first 28 days after birth.
   9. (9) “Practice certified midwifery” has the meaning stated in Health Occupations Article, §8-6D-01(h), Annotated Code of Maryland.
   10. (10) “Physician” means an individual licensed to practice medicine in the State.
