    1. (1) The role of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency; and
    2. (2) The Maryland Prescription Drug Monitoring Program;
15. O. Recognizing and addressing drug abuse;
16. P. Review of medical history;
17. Q. Questioning patients for safe prescribing;
18. R. Drug Interactions;
19. S. Premedication — antibiotic prophylaxis;
20. T. American Dental Hygienists’ Association guidelines for prescribing and administering medication;
21. U. Drug recommendations and dosing;
22. V. Adverse reactions and hypersensitivities;
23. W. Medical emergencies and emergency drugs;
24. X. Adjuvant therapy for nonsurgical periodontal treatment:
25. Y. Evidence-based decision making for drug therapy;

27. AA. Pharmacokinetics — the effect of drugs on the body;
28. BB. Pharmacodynamics — drug processing;

29. CC. Specific medications:

    1. (1) Local anesthetics:
    2. (2) Antimicrobials — subgingival and systemic;
    3. (3) Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
    4. (4) Fluoride preparations;
    5. (5) Over-the-counter medications;
    6. (6) Nutraceuticals and herbal supplements; and
    7. (7) Vitamin and mineral supplements;
30. DD. Record-keeping requirements for medications prescribed and administered; and
31. EE. Patient follow-up care.
