1. A. The following terms have the meanings indicated.

2. B. Terms Defined.

   1. (1) “Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN)” means a registered nurse who is certified by the Board as:

      1. (a) A certified nurse midwife (CNM);
      2. (b) A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA);
      3. (c) A certified nurse practitioner (CRNP); or
      4. (d) A clinical nurse specialist (CNS).
   2. (2) “Board” means the Maryland Board of Nursing.

   3. (3) “Certification” means the permission to practice as a PMH/APRN granted by the Board to a registered nurse who has:

      1. (a) Met all the specified requirements of a national certifying body recognized by the Board; and
      2. (b) Complied with the requirements of this chapter.
   4. (4) “Mental health diagnosis” means the identification of a potential or an actual alteration in an individual's mental health status.
   5. (5) “Multistate licensure privilege” has the meaning set forth in COMAR 10.27.01.01B.
   6. (6) “Nurse psychotherapist” means a registered nurse, certified under this chapter, who utilizes psychotherapy in a formally structured, contractual relationship between the nurse therapist and a client.

   7. (7) “Psychiatric mental health/ advanced practice registered nurse (PMH/APRN)” means an advanced practice registered nurse who:

      1. (a) Is certified by the Board as a clinical nurse specialist in the practice of psychiatric mental health; and
      2. (b) Autonomously and independently engages in activities authorized by this chapter.
   8. (8) “Psychobiological interventions” means interventions which integrate physiological and psychological dimensions of care and include a range of therapies from diet/nutrition regulation, hypnosis, and relaxation techniques to the use of pharmacologic agents.

   9. (9) “Registered nurse (RN)” means an individual who:

      1. (a) Is licensed by the Board to practice registered nursing; or
      2. (b) Has a multistate licensure privilege to practice registered nursing.
