1. A. Definitions.

   1. (1) “Family member” means an individual who:

      1. (a) Lives with or provides assistance to the participant; and
      2. (b) Is not paid to provide the care.

   2. (2) “Unit of service” means an hour of service rendered by a qualified provider to one or more family members at the same time in the participant's home or the provider's office, regardless of the number of family members trained at one time, not including the time spent by the provider:

      1. (a) Planning, preparing, or setting up the training;
      2. (b) Following up after the training; or
      3. (c) Traveling to and from the training.
2. B. Family training includes instruction about treatment regimens and the use of equipment specified in the plan of service.

3. C. The topics covered by family training shall be:

   1. (1) Specified in the participant's plan of service as necessary to safely maintain the participant at home;
   2. (2) Targeted to address the individualized needs of the participant; and
   3. (3) Sensitive of the educational background, culture, and general environment of the family member.
4. D. Family training shall include updates in the plan of service as necessary to continue to safely maintain the individual at home.
