Md. Code Ann., State Gov't § 9-1609 – Membership of Council

(a)
1. (1) The term of a member of the Council is 4 years.
2. (2) The terms of the members are staggered as required by the terms provided for members of the Council on January 1, 1990.
3. (3) A member is eligible to serve more than 1 term.
(b) A member of the Council may not receive compensation, but is entitled to reimbursement for expenses under the Standard State Travel Regulations.¹
(c) The Council shall designate a chairman from among its members.
