1. (a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.
2. (b) “Association” means the Maryland State Firefighters Association.
3. (c) “Department” means the Maryland Department of Emergency Management.
4. (d) “Fund” means the Volunteer Company Assistance Fund.

5. (e) “Volunteer company” means a volunteer ambulance, fire, or rescue company:

   1. (1) located in the State; or

   2. (2) located outside the State if the company:

      1. (i) has been a member of the Association for at least the past 10 years; and
      2. (ii) has a first due response area in the State.
