1. (a) If after a hearing under § 4-318 of this subtitle the Board finds that there are grounds under § 4-315 of this subtitle to suspend or revoke a general license to practice dentistry, a limited license to practice dentistry, or a teacher's license to practice dentistry, or to reprimand a licensed dentist, the Board may impose a penalty not exceeding $5,000:

   1. (1) Instead of suspending the license; or
   2. (2) In addition to suspending or revoking the license or reprimanding the licensee.
2. (b) The Board shall pay any penalty collected under this section into the General Fund of this State.
