1. (a) A person may not:

   1. (1) sell or possess a stolen:

      1. (i) manufactured serial number; or
      2. (ii) vehicle identification plate or label; or

   2. (2) possess a manufactured serial number or vehicle identification plate or label if the person intends it to be:

      1. (i) affixed to stolen property; or
      2. (ii) used for fraudulent purposes.
2. (b) A person who violates a provision of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 18 months or a fine not exceeding $500 or both for each violation.
