1. (a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

   1. (1) “Cash” means United States coins and currency.

   2. (2) “Cash” does not include:

      1. (i) a paper instrument other than a Federal Reserve note; or
      2. (ii) a gift card.
3. (c) “Customer” means a purchaser of a good or service from a merchant.
4. (d) “Merchant” means a person engaged in the trade or business of the sale of goods or services.

5. (e) “Price” means the amount due and payable by a customer for a good or service after a merchant:

   1. (1) subtracts any discount or deduction; and
   2. (2) applies any applicable tax or fee.
