310 C.M.R. 50.52 – Work Experience Requirements for All Toxics Use Reduction Planners

(1) Except as provided in 310 CMR 50.52(2),(3) and (4), an applicant shall have seven years of full-time work experience in any or all of the following areas:
1. (a) engineering or process control;
2. (b) manufacturing, production, or quality control;
3. (c) environmental compliance or worker health and safety;
4. (d) planning, industrial design, or research and development;
5. (e) accounting, business administration, or product marketing; or
6. (f) managerial or legal.
(2) Part-time work experience in the areas set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1) may count, on pro-rated basis, toward the requirements set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1).
(3) Education may substitute for up to five years of the work experience required in 310 CMR 50.52(1) as follows, provided that the degree or certificate is from an accredited educational institution:
1. (a) certificate from a technical or vocational school may substitute for up to one year of work experience;
2. (b) a degree, concentration program, or major directly related to the work experience categories set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1)(a) through (c), including, without limitation, a degree, concentration program, or major in biology, chemistry, or physics may substitute for experience as follows:
  1. 1. an associate's degree may substitute for up to two years of work experience;
  2. 2. a bachelor's degree may substitute for up to four years of work experience;
  3. 3. a master's or doctorate degree may substitute for up to five years of work experience;
3. (c) a degree, concentration program, or major directly related to the work experience categories set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1)(d) through (f), may substitute for experience as follows:
  1. 1. a bachelor's degree may substitute for up to three years of work experience;
  2. 2. a master's or doctorate degree may substitute for up to four years of work experience;
4. (d) a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate in a degree, concentration program, or major not directly related to the work experience categories set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1)(a) through
5. (f) may, at the Department's discretion, substitute for up to two years of work experience.
(4) The Department may, at its discretion, allow work experience in areas other than those set forth in 310 CMR 50.52(1) to count toward work experience required by 310 CMR 50.52(1) if the applicant demonstrates to the Department that such work experience is related to the skills or knowledge required pursuant to 310 CMR 50.51(2).
(5) Work experience, acquired by an applicant while he or she is enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited educational institution, for which the applicant receives educational course credit shall not contribute to the work experience required by 310 CMR 50.52(1).
