If any provision of 231 CMR, or the application of any such provision to any person or circumstances, is held to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of 231 CMR which can be given effect without the in­ valid provision or application. To this end, the provisions of 231 CMR are declared to be severable.
