105 C.M.R. 300.135 – Reporting of Pediatric Influenza Deaths, Severe and Unusual Illness Due to Influenza, Cases of Antiviral Treatment or Prophylaxis Failure, and Illnesses Believed to Be Due to Novel Influenza Viruses

(A) Health care providers shall report to the Department within 24 hours, in a form or manner deemed acceptable by the Department:
1. (1) All suspected and confirmed deaths due to influenza in pediatric patients and in pregnant women. Pediatric patients are defined as individuals younger than 18 years old;
2. (2) All suspect or confirmed human cases of influenza that are unusual or unusually severe including, but not limited to, cases with encephalopathy, myocarditis or pericarditis;
3. (3) All cases of influenza suspected or proven to be a result of resistance to an influenza antiviral agent; and
4. (4) Suspect or confirmed cases of human infection due to influenza A viruses that are different from currently circulating human influenza H1 and H3 viruses. These viruses include those that are subtyped as nonhuman in origin and those that are unsubtypable with standard methods and reagents.
(B) The Department will notify the local board of health via MAVEN of all such reports.
