The following definitions apply to 105 CMR 150.031:

Appropriate Resident means a resident whose primary care provider has:

1. (1) Diagnosed a terminal illness or condition can reasonably be expected to cause the resident’s death within six months, whether or not treatment is provided, provided the primary care provider determines discussion of palliative care services is not contraindicated; or
2. (2) Determined discussion of palliative care services is consistent with the resident’s clinical and other circumstances and the resident’s reasonably known wishes and beliefs.

Hospice Care means careprovided by an entity licensed pursuant to 105 CMR 141.000: Licensure of Hospice Programs.

Palliative Care means the attempt to prevent or relieve pain and suffering and to enhance the resident’s quality of life, and may include, but is not limited to, interdisciplinary end-of-life care and consultation with residents and families.
