1. A. Microscreening is a mechanical treatment process capable of removing suspended matter and organic loading from surface water by straining. It shall not be used in place of filtration or coagulation.

   1. 1. Design. Design criteria is as followed.

      1. a. consideration shall be given to the following:

         1. i. nature of the suspended matter to be removed;
         2. ii. corrosiveness of the water;
         3. iii. effect of chemicals used for pre-treatment;
         4. iv. duplication of units for continuous operation during equipment maintenance;
         5. v. provision of automated backwashing

      2. b. shall provide:

         1. i. a durable, corrosion-resistant screen;
         2. ii. provisions to allow for by-pass of the screen;
         3. iii. protection against back-siphonage when potable water is used for backwashing;
         4. iv. proper disposal of backwash waters (See Subchapter F, §§257-275 of this Part).
