1. A. All policies for COM are the same as other microfilm formats, except:

   1. 1. the COM original must be wet processed silver-gelatin film for essential records and records with a retention of 10 years or more;

   2. 2. the following standards for production, testing, and inspection of COM are recommended:

      1. a. ANSI/AIIM MS1;
      2. b. ANSI/AIIM MS5;
      3. c. ANSI/AIIM MS28;
      4. d. ANSI/AIIM MS39;
      5. e. ANSI/AIIM MS43;
      6. f. ANSI/NAPM IT9.17; or
      7. g. any superseding standard that may be issued by a relevant authority.
2. B. If bar coding is used, the procedures in technical report AIIM TR12 should be followed.
3. C. The COM original must be visually inspected every 10 feet.

4. D. Eye-legible titling information must include the following:

   1. 1. name of agency;
   2. 2. records series title;
   3. 3. date(s) of records; and
   4. 4. starting and/or ending indexing information.
5. E. A reduction ratio not exceeding 48:1 must be used.
6. F. Adherence image sequence for filming, mentioned in this policy, is not required.
