Numerous offenses pertaining to the internal security of the United States can be prosecuted only with the approval of, and under the supervision of, the Assistant Attorney General of the National Security Division, or higher authority. Authorization and supervision requirements are found at JM 9-90.020. The Counterintelligence and Export Control Section of the National Security Division supervises prosecutions involving internal security.
