The Federal Coordination and Compliance Section has two principal responsibilities. First, the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section has staff responsibility for coordinating and ensuring consistent and effective enforcement by all executive agencies of laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or religion by recipients of federal financial assistance. Recipients include state and local governments (and agencies and departments thereof, such as police, departments of corrections, courts and others), corporations, partnerships, and individuals. The Federal Coordination and Compliance Section also coordinates compliance with various executive orders seeking to ensure that the federal government itself does not discriminate in programs and activities of federal agencies. Second, the Federal Coordination and Compliance Section investigates allegations of discrimination based on race, color, national origin (including limited English proficiency), sex, or religion against recipients receiving financial assistance from the Department of Justice.
