Sec. 10. When conducting a retracement or original survey, a land surveyor shall do the following:

1. (1) Search for controlling physical monuments and, when found, weigh their reliability.

2. (2) Search for and locate the following:

   1. (A) Monuments that reference missing control monuments.
   2. (B) Monuments that substantiate control monuments that have been obliterated.
   3. (C) Other monuments and real evidence that are necessary to the survey.

3. (3) If necessary:

   1. (A) investigate possible parol evidence supporting the positions of obliterated control monuments; and
   2. (B) obtain the necessary affidavit or affidavits from individuals involved.

4. (4) Obtain the following:

   1. (A) Necessary measurements to correlate all found evidence, including the relationship to adjoining properties.
   2. (B) Sufficient check measurements to satisfactorily verify the work.
5. (5) Locate physical evidence of possession between adjoiners and identify age of possession, for example, by parol evidence, if possible.
6. (6) Survey field notes shall be in the form required by section 6 of this rule.

7. (7) Any controlling corners that are original public land survey corners or other government corners such as land grants shall be:

   1. (A) evaluated;
   2. (B) perpetuated; and
   3. (C) documented;
8. in accordance with section 30 of this rule.
