Sec. 3. The purpose for accreditation shall be as follows:

1. (1) To ensure the safe practice of nursing by setting legal standards for the programs preparing the practitioner.

2. (2) To certify minimal educational standards and practices for the preparation of:

   1. (A) registered nurses; and
   2. (B) licensed practical nurses.
3. (3) To assist in developing the programs of nursing education in accordance with sound social, educational, and professional principles.
4. (4) To ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of educational programs in nursing.
5. (5) To keep the public informed by publishing a list of the institutions that conduct accredited programs of nursing education.
