Sec. 3. (a) An approved school of medicine or school of osteopathic medicine is one located within the United States, its possessions, or Canada and is recognized by either:

1. (1) the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which is jointly sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC); or
2. (2) the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Bureau of Professional Education.

(b) In order to be approved by the board for the purpose of obtaining a license or permit, a school of medicine or school of osteopathic medicine located outside of the United States, its possessions, or Canada must maintain standards equivalent to those adopted by:

1. (1) the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Functions and Structure of a Medical School, Standards for Accreditation of Medical Education Programs Leading to the M.D. degree, 2001; or
2. (2) the Bureau of Professional Education of the American Osteopathic Association, Accreditation of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, 2001.

(c) A copy of such standards shall be available for public inspection at the office of the Health Professions Bureau, 402 West Washington Street, Room W041, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204. Copies of such standards are available from the respective entity originally issuing the incorporated matter as follows:

1. (1) The LCME Secretariat, American Medical Association, 515 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610.
2. (2) The Bureau of Professional Education of the American Osteopathic Association, 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, Illinois 60611.
