Sec. 5. (a) Students in cosmetology schools must be enrolled for:

1. (1) not fewer than twenty (20) hours; and
2. (2) not more than fifty (50) hours;

a week.

(b) Students shall obtain all required hours on the premises of the cosmetology school; however, up to ten percent (10%) of the course hours may be used for:

1. (1) educational programs;
2. (2) seminars;
3. (3) workshops; or
4. (4) other industry-related activities;

located off the school premises under the direction of the cosmetology school.

(c) A complete record of hours of attendance for each student must be:

1. (1) kept by time clock or computer; and
2. (2) recorded in the school's records.

(d) Students enrolled in cosmetology schools shall complete the required education within three (3) years from the date of enrollment.

(e) The board may waive the requirements of subsection (d) if the:

1. (1) applicant petitions the board for a waiver; and

2. (2) board determines that the applicant has demonstrated, with good cause, a hardship, such as:

   1. (A) an emergency;
   2. (B) a documented illness; or
   3. (C) military service.
