Sec. 34. (a) The certification standard for Fire Officer I shall be as set forth in Chapter 4 of the NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, 2020 edition.

(b) To qualify for entry into a certification course based on the certification standard described in subsection (a), an individual must hold:

1. (1) a certification in Firefighter II for at least one (1) year prior to the date the certification course begins;
2. (2) a certification in Fire Officer – Strategy and Tactics; and
3. (3) an active certification in Instructor I.
