Sec. 1. (a) A nuclear medicine technologist is an individual, other than a licensed practitioner, who performs nuclear medicine procedures on humans for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. An individual performing any of the following tasks must be licensed as a nuclear medicine technologist:

1. (1) Assessing and evaluating a patient in preparation for a nuclear medicine procedure.
2. (2) Making decisions concerning the performance of a nuclear medicine procedure.
3. (3) Determining control factors for a nuclear medicine procedure.
4. (4) Performing a nuclear medicine procedure.
5. (5) Administering radiopharmaceuticals for the purpose of performing a nuclear medicine procedure.

(b) The following actions do not require an individual to be licensed as a nuclear medicine technologist:

1. (1) Assisting a patient on or off a nuclear medicine table.
2. (2) Assisting a nuclear medicine technologist as explicitly directed by the nuclear medicine technologist.
3. (3) Administering radiopharmaceuticals as ordered by a practitioner in preparation for a nuclear medicine procedure.

(c) To be eligible for a nuclear medicine technologist license a person shall:

1. (1) be currently certified and registered in nuclear medicine technology by the ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); and
2. (2) complete requirements in 410 IAC 5.2-4.

(d) An individual who provides written proof to the department that he or she was actively employed as a nuclear medicine technologist for at least one (1) year prior to the effective date of this rule will be granted a nuclear medicine license upon completion of requirements under 410 IAC 5.2-4.
