Sec. 1. (a) A radiologic technologist is an individual, other than a licensed practitioner, who performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures on humans employing equipment that emits ionizing radiation. An individual performing any of the following tasks must be licensed as a radiologic technologist:

1. (1) Assessing and evaluating a patient in preparation for radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
2. (2) Making decisions concerning the performance of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
3. (3) Determining and setting exposure factors for radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
4. (4) Performing radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
5. (5) Actuating a radiation machine resulting in the production of ionizing radiation for the purpose of performing radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.

(b) The following actions do not require an individual to be licensed as a radiologic technologist:

1. (1) Holding a patient for a radiographic procedure at the direction of a radiologic technologist.
2. (2) Assisting a patient on or off a radiographic or fluoroscopic table.
3. (3) Assisting a radiologic technologist as explicitly directed by the radiologic technologist.
4. (4) Performing limited radiographic procedures under the scope of practice for that limited license.

(c) To be eligible for a radiologic technologist license a person shall:

1. (1) be currently certified and registered in radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); and
2. (2) complete requirements under 410 IAC 5.2-4.

(d) Individuals who have never been registered by the ARRT but were issued a general radiation machine operator certificate prior to the effective date of this rule are exempt from the requirements found in subsection (c) and will be issued a radiologic technologist license upon proof of prior certification and the completion of requirements under 410 IAC 5.2-4.
