Sec. 6.5. A member who is eligible for early retirement and who has on file with the fund a copy of application to Social Security for Social Security disability benefits may file for early retirement and retain his or her right to disability benefits. Under such circumstances, when the member notifies the fund that he or she qualifies for Social Security disability benefits, early retirement benefits shall cease and disability benefits shall begin.
