Sec. 21. (a) Lift stations shall be provided with shutoff valves and check valves that are operable from the floor level.

(b) Shutoff valves and check valves shall be in accordance with the following:

1. (1) Shutoff valves shall be placed on the suction line of dry pit pumps.
2. (2) Shutoff valves and check valves shall be placed on the discharge line of each pump that is not a screw pump.

3. (3) The check valve shall be:

   1. (A) located between the shutoff valve and the pump;
   2. (B) suitable for the material being handled;
   3. (C) placed on the horizontal portion of the discharge piping except for ball check valves; and
   4. (D) rated for the normal pressure and water hammer.
