1. (a) A trip permit may be issued for:

   1. (1) a vehicle that could be operated in Indiana for a period of seventy-two (72) hours instead of full registration; and
   2. (2) both interstate and intrastate travel.
2. (b) A trip permit may not be used to evade full registration.
3. (c) The department of state revenue or agents for the department of state revenue may issue trip permits under rules adopted under IC 4-22-2 .

4. (d) A person that uses a trip permit:

   1. (1) for a period greater than seventy-two (72) hours; or

   2. (2) to evade full registration;

      commits a Class C infraction.
