1. (a) As used in this section, "provider" means:

   1. (1) a city, town, or township; or

   2. (2) a volunteer fire department;

      that provides fire protection services under an agreement described in subsection (b).

2. (b) A city or town may enter into an agreement with a provider to provide fire protection services to the city or town.

3. (c) If a city or town enters into an agreement under subsection (b), the agreement must be:

   1. (1) in writing; and
   2. (2) for a fixed term.
