The purpose of this chapter is to enable the supreme court to:

1. (1) simplify and abbreviate the pleadings and proceedings;
2. (2) expedite the decision of causes;
3. (3) remedy abuses and imperfections that exist in the practice;
4. (4) abolish unnecessary forms and technicalities in pleading and practice; and

5. (5) abolish fictions and unnecessary process and proceedings.
