1. (a) The following definitions apply throughout this section:

   1. (1) "Firearm" has the meaning set forth in IC 35-47-1-5 .
   2. (2) "INcite" means the Indiana court information technology extranet.
   3. (3) "NICS" has the meaning set forth in IC 35-47-2.5-2.5 .
   4. (4) "Office" means the office of judicial administration created by section 1 of this chapter.

   5. (5) "Prohibited person" means a person who is prohibited from:

      1. (A) possessing a firearm under state or federal law; or
      2. (B) carrying a handgun under IC 35-47-2-1.5 (b).

2. (b) The office may, before January 1, 2024, develop and maintain a system to transmit data contained in the following, for the purpose of aiding law enforcement in the identification of a prohibited person:

   1. (1) The odyssey case management system.
   2. (2) The NICS reporting application.
   3. (3) The protection order registry.
   4. (4) The offender management system.
   5. (5) Any other relevant data source as determined by the office.
3. (c) The office may, before July 1, 2024, develop an electronic tool to allow a court to access its system in order to retrieve and transmit data that can be used to determine whether a person is a prohibited person. The office may create an INcite application to serve as the electronic tool.
