1. (a) "Collaboration" means overseeing the activities of, and accepting responsibility for, the medical services rendered by a physician assistant and that one (1) of the following conditions is met at all times that services are rendered or tasks are performed by the physician assistant:

   1. (1) The collaborating physician or the physician designee is physically present at the location at which services are rendered or tasks are performed by the physician assistant.

   2. (2) When the collaborating physician or the physician designee is not physically present at the location at which services are rendered or tasks are performed by the physician assistant, the collaborating physician or the physician designee is able to personally ensure proper care of the patient and is:

      1. (A) immediately available through the use of telecommunications or other electronic means; and

      2. (B) able to see the person within a medically appropriate time frame;

         for consultation, if requested by the patient or the physician assistant.

2. (b) The term includes the use of protocols, guidelines, and standing orders developed or approved by the collaborating physician.
