1. (a) A claimant for extended benefits shall:

   1. (1) make a systematic and sustained effort to search for suitable work; and

   2. (2) furnish to the department tangible evidence of an active search for suitable work;

      beginning with the week following the week in which the claimant is furnished written notice under section 6.1(b) of this chapter, and continuing for each week as long as the claimant claims extended benefits.

2. (b) Except as provided in subsection (c), if a claimant for extended benefits fails to:

   1. (1) search for suitable work; or

   2. (2) furnish tangible evidence of an active search for suitable work;

      the claimant is ineligible for the week in which the failure occurred and each subsequent week, unless the claimant earns remuneration in employment equal to or exceeding the weekly benefit amount of the individual's claim in each of four (4) weeks.

3. (c) A claimant for extended benefits who fails to engage in a systematic and sustained search for suitable work in any week because the individual is serving on jury duty may be eligible for extended benefits if the claimant takes the actions described in section 3(e) of this chapter.
