"Modern youth apprenticeship" means a structured, work based learning program with an aligned, competency based education and training plan agreed to by the student, school, and employer, in which:

1. (1) the student:

   1. (A) is enrolled in an Indiana high school and pursuing a high school diploma; or
   2. (B) enrolled in the program before the student received a high school diploma and is completing the requirements of the program;
2. (2) the student receives at least two (2) semesters of related academic instruction eligible for secondary academic credit;
3. (3) the student works on the job at least six hundred fifty (650) hours over a time period not to exceed two (2) academic years (or the equivalent) from enrollment in the apprenticeship;
4. (4) the student is paid for the work experience in the apprenticeship;
5. (5) the student earns postsecondary credit as part of the apprenticeship; and
6. (6) the apprenticeship culminates in an industry recognized credential.
