1. (a) Not later than July 1, 2019, the department shall employ at least one (1) reading specialist trained in dyslexia with a minimum of three (3) years of field experience in screening, identifying, and treating dyslexia and related disorders to provide the following:

   1. (1) Technical assistance for dyslexia and related disorders to:

      1. (A) the department; and
      2. (B) school corporations and charter schools in Indiana.

   2. (2) Training to school corporation and charter school employees in:

      1. (A) administering screenings;
      2. (B) analyzing and interpreting screening data;
      3. (C) determining appropriate interventions that are systematic, multisensory, and evidence based; and
      4. (D) dyslexia programs.

2. (b) A reading specialist trained in dyslexia shall:

   1. (1) be trained in dyslexia and related disorders, including best practice interventions and treatment models for dyslexia;

   2. (2) be responsible for:

      1. (A) the accountability of screening results; and
      2. (B) ensuring that all teachers working for the school corporations and charter schools receive the professional awareness information as required under IC 20-35.5-7-1 ; and
   3. (3) serve as the primary source of information and support for school corporations and charter schools in addressing the needs of students with dyslexia and related disorders.
