- (a) "Board" means the Board of Higher Education.
- (b) "Enrollment" or "student" means the establishment and maintenance of an individual's status as a student or enrollee in a nonpublic institution of higher learning, regardless of the terms used at the institution to describe such status.
- (c) "Institution of higher learning", "qualified institution" or "institution" means a nonpublicly supported educational organization located in this State which (1) provides a minimum of an organized 2-year program of collegiate grade in the liberal arts or sciences directly applicable to the attainment of a baccalaureate degree, and
- (2) operates privately, not-for-profit and in conformity with standards substantially equivalent to those of the State-supported institutions of higher learning. "Institution" does not include any educational organization used for sectarian instruction, as a place of religious teaching or worship or for any religious denomination or the training of ministers, priests, rabbis or other professional persons in the field of religion.
- (d) "Academic year" means the period of time from September 1 of any year through August 31 of the ensuing year.
